Aussichtswarte Jauerling

Lookout tower, Scenic lookout

Description

Die Jauerling-Warte ist auf 960 Meter Höhe, einem der höchsten Punkte am gesamten Donaulauf.

Seeing and understanding the world

If you’ve made it up the 960-metre Jauerling summit, go another 38 metres to reach the awe-inspiring lookout tower. It’s worth the effort. The view from the top is like looking at a map of Lower Austria: cast your gaze to the nearby Dunkelsteinerwald on the opposite bank of the Danube, over the central section with St. Pölten, right to the far south where the Ötscher and Hochschwab mountains appear to greet each other.

While you’re busy seeing the world, why not learn about it? A few steps below the summit is “Naturwerkstatt Jauerling”. Established in 2021 in the old lodge, this nature workshop atop the Jauerling mountain organises a “nature experience programme” for school children and preschoolers, guided tours and activities at the heart of the Jauerling-Wachau natural park.

Did you know?

The commanding lookout tower on the summit of Jauerling feels like it has been here forever. While the current structure is modern, dating to 1991, the place on which it stands has a longer history. A predecessor of the tower – made entirely of wood – was built as a vantage point in 1842.
