Description
In the Naturerlebniszentrum UnterWasserReich (nature zone and water experience), at the entrance to the Nature Park, adventurers of all ages can gain an extraordinary insight into a mysterious watery world! With indoor and outdoor areas, it offers parents and children a chance to explore wetland habitats and the biodiversity of the local underwater world. A particular highlight of this excursion destination: The otters, which you can watch at feeding times.
The entrance to the Schrems Upland Moor Nature Park is just a stone's throw away from the UnterWasserReich. Covering 119 hectares, the beautiful and tranquil moorland to the east of the granite town of Schrems is the largest upland moor in Lower Austria. The 4.5 km long Hochmoor-Rundwanderweg (Upland Moor Circular Hiking Trail) leads directly past old peat mines, across the moor, along the edge of the forest, and through vast meadows.
The Moorgeschichteweg (Moor History Route) – an adventure trail focussing on the history of the moorland – leads visitors to another highlight of the Nature Park: the Jacob's ladder! The gigantic, 20 metre high observation deck guarantees spectacular views of the fascinating peatland.
